biography

James graduated from the University of Western Ontario with his Bachelor of Music - Honors Voice Performance in 2009. 'His voice is fricken amazing' (Donald D'Haene, Beat Magazine, 2010) and his interpretation of Sondheim has been described as 'poignant and heartfelt' (Gary Smith, The Hamilton Spectator, 2011.) James has sung operatic roles in Argento's The Boor, Puccini's Gianni Schicchi and Weill's Street Scene - he was also a recipient of the London Opera Guild Scholarship in 2007.

Equally versed on the opera and musical theatre stages, he has performed in productions of Larson's RENT, Sondheim's Into the Woods and Putting it Together, Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Leigh's Man of La Mancha. In the summer of 2011 he had the pleasure of being in two original revue shows, Let the Sunshine In and The Power and Passion of Broadway, sharing the stage with David Rogers of the Toronto/National tour of the Phantom of the Opera (Raoul and the Phantom) and Susan Gilmour of the Broadway/International tour of Les Miserables (Fantine).

As a soloist, James has had the privilege of singing with ensembles including Orchestra London, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, Chorus Niagara, the Woodstock Fanshawe Singers, the McMaster University Choir, the Mohawk College Singers, the Niagara-on-the-Lake Sinfonia and Choralis Camerata. He is currently completing a Master of Music in Literature and Performance degree at UWO while he maintains a busy performance and teaching schedule.
